Impex Milling Sowing Technology
For the Mixed Forest of Tomorrow
When thinking about timber harvesting, one must consider the entire process. Impex offers milling sowing technology that enables the targeted introduction of mixed tree species into the forest.
A milling wheel, supported by adjustable depth control wheels, removes organic material and wood residues to allow sowing on mineral soil with the integrated seed drill. This method allows mixed tree species to be introduced even into narrow stands. It also helps to start the development of ecological mixed and permanent forest stands. The technology is suitable where there is insufficient space for forestry tractors or horses. With a crawler harvester with a 20-meter crane reach, work can also be done in 40-meter skid road systems while remaining FSC and PEFC compliant. Compared to manual planting, performance is significantly higher, and scarce labor is conserved.
Moreover, the milling sowing system by Impex offers compelling advantages in times of climate change: compared to manual planting, the sown forest crops perform significantly better in hot and dry climates. The plants develop a larger root system, and the risk of poor growth of expensive forest plants is eliminated.
